The EPA announced yesterday that it is paring its regional workforce, of
fering buyout and early retirement packages to hundreds of employees. EPA officials say that they hope to restructure the workforce, clearing out some higher-paid positions to make way for more entry-level employees who better fit the Agency’s new enforcement approach, which calls for fewer in-person inspections and better use of technology through its “Next Generation Compliance.”
